As part of the high-profile redevelopment of The Majestic in Leeds, developer Rushbond has commissioned a set of new statues to adorn the building once more.
The statues, which represent music and drama, are being placed in situ on top of the historic frontage, looking out onto Leeds’ City Square.
Statues have been part of the building’s history since it was first constructed. The two new statues, approximately 9ft tall, have been crafted by internationally acclaimed master sculptor Andrew Sinclair MRSS SWAc, along with four individual urns.
The replacement statues and urns follow the design influences of the original set, created by Burmantofts-based Leeds Fireclay Company.
The installation of the statues comes as conversations around the future of City Square gather momentum, with Leeds City Council recently announcing plans for a design competition to transform one of the City’s most significant public spaces.

“Since commencing works, we have been determined to deliver a sympathetic, comprehensive restoration programme which respects and pays homage to the Majestic’s rich history – whilst readying it for a new lease of life providing the workspaces of the future.
“Andrew has done an amazing job, displaying true craftsmanship and bringing an exciting set of additions to the building.”
Andrew Sinclair, co-founder at The Sculpture School, said: “This was an interesting and significant brief for us, and we’re delighted with the result. The Majestic is one of the most exciting projects happening in Leeds at the minute, so it was a real privilege to be involved.”
The Majestic first opened as a 2,400-seat cinema back in 1922 and has been redesigned to create 66,000 sq. ft. of future-focused office accommodation across seven floors.
The development is currently on-site, with construction due to complete in Q3 2020.
The Majestic redevelopment has been designed by DLA Architecture and is being constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine.
Knight Frank and JLL are joint marketing agents acting on behalf of the Rushbond Group.
The 27,000 sq. ft. deal with Channel 4 leaves four floors remaining, from 8,000 sq ft to a total of 39,000 sq ft of workspace available to be let.
